My Taxi Drivers and I have been focused on preparations for the book’s release day. I did not stop to think about the significance of February until I contemplated what this blog should be about.
The first thing that came to mind was my memoir’s release day. I thought about Carnavali, the Greek version of Mardi Gras which kicked off last Thursday, Tsiknopempti, and ends on Monday, February 27, ushering the lenten period is right now. I thought maybe I should write about that. As I recalled memories, I have from Carnavali, I realized my journey to America began with an incident that occurred in February just before Carnavali.
On the anniversary of that February day, decades ago, my memoir about my journey is published. Multiple glitches disappointed me because they caused delay after delay for the book’s publication. When the leaves changed their color, I was looking for a preholiday release day and when that did not happen; I had no choice but to be happy with February’s release. And now I see the significance of it all, and so will you as you read Taxi to America. “Everything happens for a reason.” The unveiling of the journey occurs on the anniversary of its birth.
In three days, the preorders will be shipped, the local bookstores will have them ready for pickup. My teammates and I are excited about celebrating this day.
Prior to the Covid pandemic, I was blessed with spending time in Greece at this time of year.I am sharing photographs of Tsiknopempti and Carnavali celebrations, exhibiting some of my sister’s beautiful costume creations.
