A daunting task.
A ton of photographs is a blessing which can give one a headache. Reviewing decades of my life had me slow down in the writing process and lose myself in nostalgia.
The black and white pictures of my childhood and adolescent years mostly in Greece stirred up memories of friendships that were formed in short intervals during my visits. Friendships which were nourished and maintained across the Atlantic with the exchange of letters and photographs.
The years rolled by, and some friendships rolled away. The gaps created by the familiar were replaced by new ones. New phases in my life are painted on a new canvas. The photographs are in color, the faces have changed. And my journey into the past invoked memories and emotions that had been dormant. The pleasant, the fun, the beautiful, and the ugly ones. They all surfaced, and I gave them the attention they deserved. I lingered and held onto some a bit longer than others. You know the ones; they give your entire being a warm and soothing bath.
Finally, I accomplished my task of choosing the photographs I would use for the book. Before this I had given the oldest of the black and white photos to a studio to scan to the correct pixel size for printing.
Once I completed this process, I uploaded the photos and sent to the book designer for layout. I want to say sending the manuscript and photographs to the designer was the most exciting step in the making of the book but it’ not entirely so for me. There was excitement with every step I completed which propelled me to the next.
Stay tuned for next stage.
